Here in the UK, we have many different types of trees that are incredibly beneficial to our health, and can provide us with a wealth of delicious and nutritious treats.
One of the most popular trees in the UK is the birch tree. The bark of the birch tree is edible, and can be used to make an interesting and flavourful tea. To make birch bark tea, simply bring a pot of water to boil and add a handful of birch bark chips. Simmer the mixture for 10 minutes before straining into a cup. You can also add a teaspoon of honey to sweeten the tea.
The fruit of the mulberry tree is also found growing in the UK. Mulberries are a sweet and juicy fruit, and can be eaten fresh off the tree or used in a variety of recipes. One of our favourite recipes is a mulberry crumble, which is a delicious and comforting dessert. To make this classic dish, simply mix together a cup of fresh mulberries with a tablespoon of sugar, a teaspoon of cinnamon, and a pinch of nutmeg in a bowl. Spread this mixture into a baking dish, top with a crumble made from a mix of oats, flour, butter, and brown sugar, and bake for 40 minutes at 350 degrees.
The leaves of the fig tree are also edible, and can be used to make an incredibly tasty fig leaf tea. To make this tea, simply steep a handful of fresh fig leaves in a pot of hot water for 10–15 minutes. This tea is naturally sweet with a subtle earthy flavour, and is a great way to get your daily dose of antioxidants.
Finally, we have the apples that can be found growing on apple trees throughout the UK. Apples are a classic fruit, and can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. One of our favourite recipes is a classic apple pie. To make this delicious dessert, simply mix together a cup of sugar, a teaspoon of cinnamon, and a pinch of nutmeg in a bowl. Peel and core 4–5 apples and slice them into thin slices. Place these slices in a pie crust and top with the sugar mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes and enjoy a delicious and comforting treat.
